Language impairment is a sign of neurodegenerative disorders like Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Early diagnosis of AD is important for improving the quality of life for individuals with dementia, but current diagnostic methods are expensive.
However, recent study has discovered the potential of using artificial intelligence (AI), specifically natural language processing (NLP) with large language models like GPT-3, to predict dementia from spontaneous speech.
This shows AI could be developed into deployable applications, assisting clinicians in early AD screening and diagnosis.
As we continue to refine these technologies, the future holds promise for more accurate and accessible diagnostic tools, ultimately improving outcomes for individuals affected by Alzheimer’s disease.
